"Giving The Community An Alternative"
|
 |
|
Luv-N-Things Inc. is a non-profit faith -based organization founded by a single mother of four living in the Southside
central Columbus area with hopes of providing the best quality environment for all children while developing the whole child
on an individual basis in a safe and loving atmosphere.
Youth involvement in the community is scarce or even more so for this the generation X non existent. The influence of drug,
alcohol, and violence is seen throughout their community, their homes, and school life. The children of the South of Main
community are falling by the wayside, the local school district has a failing state report card which intern is passed on
to the children. When leaving their schools children are walking through drug sales, men standing on corners drinking from
brown bags, and gang fights. Once home from school some children deal emotional abuse from being left alone because parents
are at work or some have drug addicted parents that never care for them. These children seem to have and live a hopeless life,
with what seems to be a place where no one cares about them. In return they no longer care about there surroundings.
Luv-N-Things Inc. will offer an after school program and summer camp where youth can come and feel safe and receive help
to finding positive alternatives to cope with home, school, and community problems. The after school program and summer camp
are designed to meet each child’s need in areas of social, emotional, and cognitive and physical development. The program
daily offers activities that are planned by group leaders to stimulate the physical, social, and cognitive development of
the children. Daily activities include singing , art, crafts, reading, math, journal writing, socializing, field trips, and
Ladies and Gentlemen Club. This club monitors the children in the area of self-discipline, manners, hygiene, school and homework,
respect and helping each other. During the school year the program runs Monday to Friday the hours of 2:30pm to 6:30 pm and
summer hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
